What are the fees for
issuing a passport ?
i ) Fresh Passport ( 36 pages ) of 10 years validity- Rs. 1,000.
ii) Fresh Passport ( 60 pages ) of 10 years validity - Rs. 1,500.
iii) Fresh Passport for Minors ( Below 15 years of Age
) of 5 years validity -
Rs.600 (Cash either by Bank Draft in
favor of the Passport Office or in Cash.
In case of D.D. full name of the applicant and application number to be
written on the reverse of the draft.) |

is the procedure if the passport is lost ?
A complaint should be lodged in the concerned local
Police station and thereafter, an application for
a new Passport should be made in the Passport Office.

The verification procedure takes minimum 3 weeks from the receipt of the application, provided
that reports are received well in time from
the local Police station . |

What are the documents required to apply for
a passport ?
Attach two copies of the following documents:
1) Applicant's Ration Card or any of the following documents.
a) Telephone Bill.
b) Electricity Bill.
c) Running Bank Account.
d) Election Card.
e) Income Tax Assessment order last 3 years
f) Letter from the Society on letterhead.
g) NOC from the department if applicant is a Government servant.
2) Proof of date of birth or School leaving certificate.
3) Citizenship documents
4) If applicant is citizen of India by registration or naturalization. 4) Copies of old Passport.
5) If the applicant does not reside in the present address for the last one year,
an additional set of personal particulars form for each additional place of
residence is required.
6) Identitical Photograph in black and white or in color showing frontal
view of
full face against light background.
7) Two photographs are
required for verification in the local Police station. |

What
is the procedure if the applicant is minor?
a) Affidavit by legal guardian only if parents
are not legal guardians.
b) Affidavit by two responsible persons who
know the legal guardian as well as
the minor.
c) Attested photocopy of passport if any,
of both parents, incorporating their
present marital status.

What
is procedure for change of name following marriage,
remarriage or divorce?
a) A woman applying for the first time for
a passport in her married name or for
change of name/surname
in the existing passport on account of marriage
should furnish:
i) A photocopy of the husband's Passport
if any, and
ii) An attested copy of the marriage certificate
issued by Registrar of Marriages
or an affidavit from
the husband and wife along with a joint photograph.
b) Divorcees applying for change of name or
deletion of spouse's name in
existing passport must
furnish:
i) Divorce deed duly authenticated by
the court, or
ii) Deed poll/sworn affidavit.
c) Re-married applicants applying for a change
of name/spouse's name should
furnish:
i) Divorce/death certificate as the
case may be in respect of first spouse, and
ii) Documents as (a) above relating to second
marriage.
d) In other circumstances for change of name,
the applicant (both male and
female) should furnish:
i) A deed poll/sworn affidavit.
ii) A paper cutting of two leading daily newspapers
(one daily newspaper should
be of the area of applicant's
permanent and present address of nearby area)

What is the procedure followed for Verification?
1) All passport applications are accepted in the Passport Office, Worli, Mumbai.
2) Passport applications are sent for Police verification after 2-3 days to S.B.-II,
C.I.D., Mumbai.
3) After receiving the passport applications from the Passport Office, Worli,
these applications are immediately sent to the concerned local Police
Station
for verification.
4) A second copy of the application is sent for verification to various branches of
the Crime Branch, C.I.D. and S.B.-I ,C.I.D., Mumbai. These verification
procedures take minimum three weeks, provided reports are received well in
time from
the local Police station .
5) Reports based on the above observations are sent to
the Passport Office after
checking
6) Passports are issued from the Regional Passport Office, Mumbai Passport
Office Telephone Numbers- 24961919/20, 24980808/09.
7) After Police verification, reports are dispatched to Passport Office, Worli,
Further enquiries should be followed up at Passport Office, Worli by the
applicant. |

List of applicants entitled to Emigration Check Not Required stamp (E.C.N.R.)
a) People going abroad for managerial capacity in hotels/restaurants, tea-
Houses or other places of public resort etc.
should posses
specialized degrees
in these fields.
b) All Gazetted Government servants.
c) All Income-Tax payers (Including Agricultural
Income-Tax Payees) with their
individual capacity, proof of assessment to Income-Tax and actual payment of
Income Tax for last three years be insisted upon, and not merely
the payment
of advance tax. However, in most cases if
an assessment order is not issued
separately by the
Income Tax Department, Income Tax Return stamped by
Income Tax authority can be accepted.
d) All professional degree holders, such as doctors holding M.B.B.S. degree in
Ayurveda or Homoeopathy, accredited Journalists, Engineers, Chartered
Accountants, Cost Accountants, Lecturers, Teachers, Scientists, Advocates
etc.
e) Spouses and dependent children up to the age of 24
years are listed from (b)
to (d).
f) All persons who have been staying abroad for more than 3 years
g) Seamen who are in possession of CDC or C cadets.
h) All holders of Diplomatic/Official passports.
I) Dependent children of parents whose passports are classified as E.C.N.R.
until they attain 24 years of age.
j) Persons holding permanent Immigrant Visas.
k) Persons holding Graduate or higher degrees.
l) Persons holding 3 years diploma equivalent to degrees.
m) Nurses possessing qualifications recognized under the Indian Nursing Council
Act-1947.
n) All persons above the age of 60 years
Note- 1) No emigration clearance is required for visiting Bangladesh,
Pakistan and all countries of Europe (Excluding C.I.S. States ), North
America, Australia, Japan and New Zealand.
2) No emigration clearance is required for persons possessing certificate of
Vocational Training from
the Government/ Government recognized
institutions. |
